Nervous System State Tracker

12 questions. Somatic and behavioral markers. Map your current polyvagal state — and understand what it means.

The polyvagal framework

Three states. One nervous system.

The polyvagal theory describes three distinct operating modes of the autonomic nervous system. Each state produces a different physiological signature, a different perceptual field, and a different range of available behavior.

Understanding which state you're in is the first step toward working with your nervous system rather than against it.

Ventral Vagal
Regulated
Social engagement online. Cognitive flexibility available. The body has a felt sense of safety — not perfect, but present.
Sympathetic
Activated
Threat response engaged. Attention narrowed. The body has mobilized resources — prepared to act, fight, or flee.
Dorsal Vagal
Collapsed
Conservation mode. Withdrawal and flatness. The oldest branch of the vagus nerve, activated when threat felt too large to meet.
How this works

12 questions — behavioral, somatic, and perceptual markers. Each answer maps to one of the three states. Your dominant pattern reveals your current operating mode.

There are no better or worse answers here. The assessment reads your present state. It doesn't evaluate it.
